Memorylens Privacy Policy

Last updated 14 August 2026

Memorylens shows you photographs you took on this day in previous years. To do that it needs to know when your photos were taken. This page explains exactly what leaves your phone, what does not, and how to erase all of it.

Who is responsible

The controller of your personal data is Brandpeneur B.V., registered in the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number 88576655.

Registered address: Harmoniestraat 15, Unit 3.002, 1951 AV Velsen-Noord, The Netherlands
Contact for privacy questions: admin@brandpeneur.com

Memorylens is published on the App Store by Joshua George, who is named there as the trader, at the same address. Brandpeneur B.V. operates the service and is the controller of your data.

The short version

We keep a short record of every photo, and a reduced-size copy of the ones worth remembering.

The record is when a photo was taken, how big it is, whether it is a screenshot, how many faces are in it, a quality score, and the location if your photo already carries one.

The copies are made gradually, over wifi, and build up over time. Screenshots, receipts, documents and near-identical burst shots are never uploaded at all. Neither is anything you hide. Your original files never leave your phone: what we hold is a smaller copy, made so your memories survive a lost or replaced phone.

What we collect, and why

WhatWhy
Photo dates The whole point of the app. Without the date we cannot tell you what happened on this day in previous years.
Photo details Dimensions, photo or video, whether it is a screenshot or part of a burst, how many faces appear, and a quality score. This is how screenshots, receipts and blurry duplicates are kept out of your memories.
Location Where a photo already carries coordinates, we store them so memories can be grouped by place. We never ask your phone for your current location, and the app requests no location permission.
Photo copies Reduced-size copies of photos worth remembering, so they survive a lost or replaced phone. Built up gradually over wifi. Screenshots, receipts, documents, near-identical burst shots and anything you have hidden are never uploaded.
An account number A random identifier so your data is yours. There is no email address, no password and no way to sign in as you.
Your first name Only if you type it during setup, and only so the app can greet you. You can leave it blank.
Your settings Reminder time, whether to include videos, which frame you like, and which photos you have hidden.

Faces

The app counts how many faces are in a photograph, because pictures of people usually matter more than pictures of parking meters. It does not recognise anyone. No face templates are created, nobody is identified or matched between photographs, and no biometric data is produced or stored. The result is a number, nothing more.

What we never collect

Legal basis

We process this data to provide the service you asked for, which under the GDPR is performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)). If you do not want us to process it, the app cannot do the one thing it exists to do, and you can delete everything at any time.

Where it is kept, and who can see it

Data is stored with Supabase, our hosting provider, on servers located in the European Union (Ireland). Supabase acts as our processor under a data processing agreement.

Photo copies are held in private storage. They are not public, not indexed by search engines, and not reachable by other users of the app. As the operator of the service, Brandpeneur B.V. is technically able to access stored photos, in the same way any service that stores files for you can. Access is limited to what is necessary to operate, support and fix the service. We do not view, analyse or share your photographs for any other purpose, and we never sell data or hand it to advertisers.

How long we keep it

Until you delete it. There is no fixed expiry. If you remove the app without deleting your data first, the data stays until you delete it, so use the option below rather than only uninstalling.

Deleting everything

Open Memorylens, go to Settings, and choose Delete everything.

That erases your account, every photo copy we hold, and everything we worked out about your library. It happens immediately and cannot be undone. Your camera roll is not touched. Every photo on your phone stays exactly where it is.

If you cannot use the app for any reason, email the address at the top of this page and we will do it for you.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

Email the address above to exercise any of these. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle it, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Automated decisions

The app scores photographs automatically to decide which are worth showing you. That is the entire feature. It has no legal or similarly significant effect on you, and you can change how strict the filtering is, or turn it down entirely, in Settings.

Children

Memorylens is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete the account.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be shown in the app before they take effect.
